The uncertainty surrounding tariffs has many an automaker scrambling to build more cars in America, and many of them will be built here for the first time. But should these automakers think bigger, by considering selling cars that they would never otherwise have revived? If component prices are going to increase, and if those prices are going to be passed onto the customer, perhaps leading American manufacturing facilities like BMW’s Plant Spartanburg should be retooled for smaller cars. Could the 1 Series find new buyers? Could the Ford Focus and Fiesta become popular again? Would you buy those cars if they returned?
