It’s widely accepted that the Lamborghini Miura was the world’s first supercar, so we can agree that the trend started in the 1960s. The ’60s also gave us the Ford GT40, the Ferrari 250 LM, and the lesser-spotted McLaren M6 GT. The 1970s gave us some of the best wedges we’ve ever seen, including the BMW M1, the Maserati Bora, and the most famous of them all, the Lamborghini Countach. In the 1980s, we saw major advancements in the supercar scene. The Porsche 959 and the Ferrari F40 were the first two cars to top 200 mph. And let’s not forget about the Ferrari Testarossa and its unique flat-12 engine. It was the only car ever to use this configuration.
The 1990s were particularly good. This era gave us the Ferrari 355, the Bugatti EB 1110 (arguably the first hypercar), the infamous Diablo, the Viper, NSX, F50, and the McLaren F1. That’s why your faithful correspondent will be advocating for this era. In the new millennium, we got the Ferrari Enzo, Porsche Carrera GT, Lamborghini Murcielago, and the Pagani Zonda. The 2000s also gave us the daddy of all supercars, the Bugatti Veyron. It was the first car to top 250 mph. The most notable cars of the 2010s were the McLaren P1, Porsche 918, and Ferrari LaFerrari, otherwise known as the Holy Trinity. They proved that electricity had a place in modern cars, and that it could be used for fun. So, what do you think? Which era gets the award for building the best supercars?
